Septic Service Pricing Guide

Septic work isn't one-size-fits-all, and pricing reflects that. What a job costs depends on your tank size, soil conditions, site accessibility, and the scope of work involved. The ranges below are meant to give you a realistic starting point for budgeting, not a fixed quote. Final pricing is confirmed after a look at your specific property.

Routine Maintenance

Septic pumping. Standard 1,000 to 2,000 gallon tanks, including properties with multiple tanks, typically run $350 to $650 or more. Non-standard tanks or tanks with pump chambers are priced individually based on size, and larger jobs (comparable to commercial-scale work) are billed at a per-gallon rate. If the tank lids aren't accessible and need to be dug up to expose them, a digging fee applies. Installing a riser is the best way to avoid that fee on future visits.

Tank inspection report. A tank inspection report is provided at no additional charge when paired with a pumping service.

Repairs and Component Services

Baffle repair or replacement. $150, plus a $175 service fee if the repair isn't paired with another service call. If additional repairs are needed beyond the baffle itself, that work is priced individually.

Distribution box replacement. Pricing depends entirely on the box's size and specifications, along with any panel or electrical work involved. The estimate fee for a distribution box replacement is waived if the replacement itself is booked.

Drain field jetting. Jetting from the tank toward the house runs $350. Jetting from the tank all the way to the drain field is priced individually based on the scope of the job. A camera inspection can be paired with jetting, which can help lower the overall cost compared to booking each separately. Aeration is not a service currently offered.

Drain field replacement. Starts at $8,000 and up. Actual cost depends on several factors, including whether the replacement is a standard or engineered (mound) system, the size of the drain field needed for the home, how much soil and rock material the job requires, and whether old materials need to be removed as part of the work.

New System Installation

Conventional gravity system. Starts at $8,000 and up.

Alternative or mound system. Starts at $20,000 and up, typically for properties with more difficult soil conditions.

Which type of system a property needs isn't a matter of preference. It's determined by the county's soil evaluation and permitting requirements based on that property's specific soil and site conditions.

Soil Evaluation, Permits, and Site Work

Soil evaluation / perc test. Pricing includes the required county permit and the excavation for testing. A replacement perc test is $600. A perc test for new construction is $1,000.

Pump-out digging fee. When tank lids need to be dug up to be accessed, the fee is $100 per lid, per foot of depth.

Riser installation. $350 per riser and lid for depths up to 3 feet. Deeper installations are priced individually.

Tank replacement. $5,000 to $6,000.

Getting an Accurate Quote

These figures are general ranges meant to help you plan, not a substitute for an actual quote. Soil type, site accessibility, tank condition, and the specific scope of a job can all move a price up or down from what's listed here.
